What a special pair we have for you! Maggie has been a wonderful, caring, surrogate mother to young, blind Nano while they were strays on the streets of Puerto Rico (where lack of spaying/neutering for a streak of years has lead to a huge influx of dogs without homes, so like many US rescues, NELR has pledged to help when possible). Once found and taken into the care of their PR rescue, the vet believed Nano suffered from an untreated eye infection while living on the streets which caused him to lose both eyes, sadly. We are so thankful for how amazing dogs are, because big-hearted Maggie stepped up to help guide young Nano while they were left to find shelter and food sources during their time without a home. 

 

Nano isn’t bothered at all by his lack of sight and still has fun playing, exploring, and cuddling like any young pup. He is a little shy in new situations, which is understandable, and his new family will need to be thoughtful when big changes are made in the home (like furniture layouts), but he’s a typical puppy once he knows his space. He is a handsome, sleek little guy with a rich, dark gold coat with touches of black. 

 

As you can probably guess, Maggie is as sweet as they come! She is a floofster that looks a bit like a pretty black & white fox. She’s the alpha in the pair, but is always caring and playful about it. 

 

They are both potty & crate trained, have a fun time with other dogs, and may potentially be ok with cats since they’ve encountered them on the streets. They both know a few basic cues in Spanish, and are overall great dogs. They were thriving in PR and have recently made the big trek to New England, where they continue to have a great time with all this wonderful care and love! They think toys are fun, and a fenced yard would be great for spending time outside with them. They are both playful, loving, and sweet, and we’d love to find a home where they can continue to live as a bonded pair after all they have been through. They’d enjoy a home with family around more often than not, because they’ve got so much love to give. Their foster says, “These two are absolutely adorable together and will provide unlimited cuddles.”

We are a shelterless rescue. All of our dogs are housed in foster homes to help them de-stress and get used to a home environment while they await adoption, giving us the opportunity to understand their personalities and needs.
